Presentation

Compulsive Eating Disorders:  As Therapists How Can We Better Meet Our Clients Needs?

Mary Sue Abernethy, LMFT

Mary Sue Abernethy, Licensed Marriage and Family therapist and Registered Dietitian, has over 26 years of combined personal and professional experience to help us answer this question as our February luncheon speaker. She has been helping her clients discover what she calls her Non-Diet Inner Wisdom approach to achieving a healthy weight and peace with food and body image. This approach has come from her own journey of being "model thin to muumuu heavy" by finding her own inner wisdom to weight health.

This professional and personal wisdom allowed her to write a book entitled SuperMarketing and she had a successful radio talk show for 3 years in Texas helping people explore their weight issues.  Recently she has produced her next book in the form of a web site, www.weight-loss-choose-inner-wisdom.com, to get her non-diet approach out to the public.  Mary Sue has lectured across the country on her healthy approach to compulsive eating disorders, and would like to share her knowledge with other therapists regarding the myths we might be holding in the therapy room regarding weight issues that may be getting in the way of therapy.  She also would like us to know what she has learned about some of the myths clients may bring into therapy regarding what they can and cannot tell us in the therapy room.

Mary Sue is now focusing on group therapy regarding weight and has added energy psychology and energy medicine to her practice.  She also hopes to be a support to other therapists in the community with her multitude of helpful printable materials and teachings (available on her website) that can be used personally or with our clients.  Her enthusiasm is contagious and she loves to bring her teachings alive by allowing much of it to become experiential in nature, making this luncheon one not to miss!
