    Presenter Bio:

Hello I am Michael Guichet and I go by Mike. I am a passionate sex therapist with a joy for the work. Since the beginning of my college career, double majoring in psychology and business at Cal State University Monterey Bay, I have been on the path to becoming a sex therapist. Being a bit of an oddball, I knew I wanted to be a therapist at a young age as my grandmother was a therapist and I received great therapy for learning challenges at a young age. Early on I was doing sex education, volunteering at the Monterey County Rape Crisis Center, volunteering at sex therapy conferences while attending the sessions, and being in the communities I serve. I would go on to John F. Kennedy University for a Master's program and during the time I was getting my license I worked at the Santa Cruz Main Jail site, co-facilitated a men's sexual assault survivor group, worked at a community college supporting students, and worked at an in-home behavioral program. With this wide variety of experiences, I started my sex therapy private practice 9 years ago and I have been focused on that work.

My work is focused on helping individuals, partners, and couples to connect on the things that are not being talked about. Often people believe they are broken or their desires are shameful and I work to create change, support people in exploring their desires, and facilitate communication. I enjoy the work of helping clients change the patterns around their sex lives. Specializing in sex therapy, I see individuals, couples, partners, and families in monogamous, polyamory, open, LGBTQ+, kink, and BDSM communities. Also, a major component of my work is supporting clients moving through sexual dysfunction and disorder. It is my passion to work to heal shame and facilitate communication around my client’s identity, relationship orientation, sexual orientation, sexual behavior, and many more aspects of the sexual experience. I am working in Monterey and Santa Cruz Counties providing only telehealth and my site can be found at Mikemft.com. I am also able to provide low-cost consultation on cultural sensitivity around non-monogamy, LGBTQ+, and kink/BDSM clients.

We are excited to invite you and your families (and furry friends!) to our Summer BBQ Potluck! This is a wonderful opportunity to gather, share a meal, discuss the future of our chapter, and simply have fun together.

We encourage everyone to bring their favorite dish or something grillable to share, along with your enthusiasm and ideas for the future of our chapter.

We will have a skilled grill professional (AKA Mike Guichet) who will be "manning" the grill, and we'll provide burgers and hot dogs, condiments, along with refreshing drinks for everyone.

At noon, we will fill our plates and gather in community to share where we stand as a chapter and open it up to all of you to share any ideas for our chapter and your personal experiences as an MCCAMFT member.  Once we've gathered, we will have games and activities for all ages to enjoy.

We look forward to seeing you there and creating wonderful memories together!

This event is free to register, and we would greatly appreciate a donation if you are able to give.

Forest Bathing: Discovering and Deepening Relationship with the Outdoors

    Date: August 31st, 2025

Time: 10 am to 12:30 pm, 2 CEs, 2.5 hours total

Sign up early for early bird pricing and spots are limited to 15 participants.

Location: "Rip" Van Winkle Open Space, 1072 Congress Ave., Pacific Grove (across from Forest Grove Elementary School) https://maps.app.goo.gl/WuHN77NaUHPkvtVeA

In this salon participants will learn of Forest Bathing. Spending slow-moving, contemplative time in the forest can feel, in many ways, like coming home to a peaceful place inside the heart. The practice of shinrin-yoku ("Forest Bathing") is a form of guided walking meditation, an "immersion" into the home-space of trees, plants, birds, and critters, not to mention the ceiling of the mycelium living room. Being in community in this community can be very good medicine ... especially these days.

A 6-minute video in which Marianne talks about Forest Bathing:

    What to Bring:

To sit-on, please bring a cushion or towel or a light-weight chair that you can carry for a short, level-ground walk.

Bring water and, if you’d like, a light snack.

Wear layers; the temperature is quite variable.

    Presenter Bio:

Marianne is a licensed marriage & family therapist and a co-founding teacher of Monterey Bay Meditaion Studio. She is dedicated to cultivating eco-systemic consciousnes and living in-cahoots with Earth, Cosmos, and Life in all forms. Her sense of belonging and aliveness is surced and deepend through walks, sits, and communion with the Pacific Ocean, forest, and night skies, along with envisioning conversation with beloved friends.

Marianne's evidently insatiable love of learning has led her into a certification in Climate Psychology as well as becoming a nature & forest therapy guide, eco-therapist, California naturalist, CA Climate Steward, Authentic Relating facilitator, and Warm Data Host.

    Shame: Putting It All Together

Essential Insights for Helping Clients Heal and Thrive

    Date: September 26th, 2025

    Time: 9am-12:30pm, 3 CEs available

Location: Universalist Unitarian Church of the Monterey Peninsula

Over the years, we’ve gained invaluable insights into shame from experts like Brené Brown, Janina Fisher, Bessel van der Kolk, and others. But how do we synthesize this knowledge into effective, actionable strategies for healing? What are the essential skills, understanding, and nuances that contribute to successful outcomes for clients suffering from this "cancer of the soul"?

In this presentation, Kristine Jensen, LCSW, author of Bruised Not Broken: Healing the Wounds of a Troubled Childhood, will answer these questions. Drawing on her extensive clinical experience and unexpected insights while writing her book, she will introduce critical elements that are often underexplored or overlooked in current trauma therapy (Why do shame-filled clients lack empathy; what are the unconscious habits that keep clients from healing). These insights and what to do about them are key to not only helping clients heal but also empowering them to thrive.

Through theory, case studies, research outcomes, and personal stories, you will gain a deeper understanding of the often-hidden manifestations of shame in depression, social anxiety, personality disorders, and failed relationships. Additionally, you will learn how to engage your clients in their own healing process through education, exercises/reflection questions, and the vision that a brighter future is possible.

    Schedule:

Registration, Breakfast, and Announcements: 9am - 9:30 am

    Education: 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

    Checkout and Certificates: 12:30 pm - 12: 45 pm

    Learning Objectives:

At the end of the presentation, participants will be able to:

    1. Explain how shame is one of the survival strategies of the central nervous system and why knowing this is important to our clients.
    2. Describe how our culture unknowingly perpetuates shame as a change agent through parenting practices, justice system, some religious tenets –and why this is misguided.
    3. List 2 of the unconscious habits that keep clients from healing.
    4. Describe the evidenced-based process of releasing the past (aka forgiveness) and why this could be a key ingredient for your client’s healing.

    Presenter Bio:

Recognized for her expertise, Kristine has presented at professional conferences on diagnosing and treating trauma related issues. Early in her career she worked at the University of Davis, School of Medicine as an assistant clinical professor of psychiatry and faculty member. She has trained directly with renowned experts like the late Sue Johnson, founder of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and John Gottman (Gottman Method Couples Therapy) and studied the work of respected trauma experts.

After her first retirement from 30 years of private practice, Kristine worked as a counselor for the US Army in Germany and Okinawa. When she returned, she opened a private practice in Monterey, CA, and began researching and working on her book about chronic shame, Bruised Not Broken.

When not immersed in her therapeutic work, Kristine enjoys California's central coast with her life partner and their beloved dog, Zoey. Whether she's keeping gophers out of her garden, chasing errant golf balls into the bushes, or taking walks on the beach, Kristine finds joy in life's simple pleasures. She is also a proud mother and grandmother, with one son and a grandson.
